As you may know, Nissan will bring the all-new LEAF within a year. Nissan told officially on the announcement of financial statements that a new type of LEAF with ProPILOT is going on the market by the end of the fiscal year that ended in March 2018.
Now there grow some rumors about spec of the new LEAF in Japan. They said that Nissan had already shown the next LEAF to some dealers, and they leaked some information to intimate users.
Summary of the info are below. Orignal article I wrote in Japanese is available here.
- 40-kWh battery, 350-km range
- Almost same price as the current model
These features are probable because Mr. Kazuo Yajima, the global director of EV division, told similar spec to the Nikkei. The new LEAF must compete with Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3. That is, they may be similar in some aspects.
- ProPILOT technology with automatic parking system [officially confirmed on July 5th]
- One Pedal Drive [officially confirmed on July 20th]
These are already introduced in other recently developed models, SERENA and NOTE e-power.
- More powerful motor – 110-kW, 150 PS; only 6 seconds from zero to 100 km/h
It is worth noting that Calsonic Kansei, an automotive components manufacture, developed a compact power control module whose capacity was targeted up to 130-kW for the next LEAF by 2017. If it is true, the next LEAF provides great acceleration comparable to that of Tesla Model 3.
They said that Nissan would reveal the details on September 6th in Tokyo, one week before the Frankfurt motor show.
June 30, 2017
Today, it was officially announced that Nissan would disclose the detail of new LEAF on September 6th in Japan (Sep. 5 in US).
